Golden Era 2 - Big and Baby Bertha
|
  |
|   |
An enormous amount of history about these cars. Big Bertha was originally designed to campaign in a super saloon series in the
mid seventies and was designed from scratch with a separate chassis with the help of Frank Costin, the COS in Marcos. There was not much Vauxhall left really
especially with the 5 litre 500 BHP V8 (Repco - Holden) and specially built suspension. The car was very competitive and startled many critics with the way
that such a big car handled so well, testament to the fine design. The car body was destroyed in a shunt so it was decided to base the underpinnings on a smaller model,
hence Baby Bertha was born, a very wide Firenza. Baby Bertha was even more competitive, so dominant was she that the race series developed for these cars was
abandoned as the opposition (i.e. Ford, etc) was totally outclassed. Heh!
